Introduction
I'm Mia Stone - Hold & Win specialist and Play'n GO session tester. Play'n GO released Book of Dead GO Collect in February 2026, and it keeps the symbol-expansion Free Spins that built the original's reputation, with the GO Collect jackpot mechanic added on top. The game opens with a two-panel tutorial screen before the first bet goes in: the left panel shows the GO Collect bowl and its Stater categories, the right shows the symbol-expansion mechanic already in motion. That intro lays out exactly what kind of game this is before the first spin - more moving parts than the 2016 version, same core Egypt tension. One detail I didn't expect: the Tomb Scatter symbol is not the Book of Dead. It's a golden sarcophagus case with a bird motif on the lid - a decorative reliquary box, not a book.
How Book of Dead GO Collect Works
The grid is 5x3, 10 fixed paylines, left to right only. Standard layout - nothing structural changes from the 2016 version.
The symbol lineup starts with Wilde at the top - 500x total bet for five of a kind. Below him: the Pharaoh at 200x, then Anubis and Horus both at 75x for five. The card ranks - Ace and King at 15x for five, Queen through Ten at 10x - fill out the lower end. At 1.50 per spin those translate to 750.00, 300.00, 112.50, 22.50, and 15.00 for five-of-a-kind runs on the respective symbols.
The Tomb Scatter does two jobs. As Wild, it substitutes for all symbols and uses the payout of the top symbol on that line. As Scatter, three or more in any reel position triggers Free Spins. Scatter pays stack on top of payline wins: three Scatters pay 2x total bet, four pay 20x, five pay 200x.
The GO Collect mechanic runs through every base game spin. Gold Staters can attach to any symbol on the reels except the Tomb Scatter. They collect automatically when they land. The bowl on the left sidebar tracks accumulation. More Staters collected means a higher probability of a Treasure Vault trigger. The jackpot meter panel next to the bowl shows four live values - Grand, Major, Minor, Mini - and they update in real time as the bet level changes. Those values held at 750.00, 150.00, 30.00, and 15.00 throughout my session at 1.50 per spin: 500x, 100x, 20x, and 10x proportional to the stake, as expected.
Bonus Features: GO Collect, Treasure Vault, and Free Spins
The GO Collect Mechanic and Treasure Vault
Staters can land on any base game spin - collection is automatic when they do. Gold Staters attach to standard symbols pre-land and collect on each hit. The bowl tracks accumulation; fill it enough and the Treasure Vault triggers.
The Treasure Vault is a Hold & Win re-spin sequence. It opens with 3 re-spins. Each new Stater hit resets the count back to 3. The sequence ends when the counter hits zero.
Two Stater categories:
Regular Staters pay X1, X2, X3, X4, or X5 of total bet each. The Vault awards the sum of all landed Stater values multiplied by total bet. To give a concrete example: three X3 Staters and two X5 Staters at 1.50 per spin pays (3x3 + 2x5) x 1.50 = 19 x 1.50 = 28.50.
Bonus Staters are the jackpot entries: Grand (500x total bet), Major (100x), Minor (20x), Mini (10x). The Grand at 1.50 per spin pays 750.00. At 5.00 per spin that's 2,500.00 for the Grand alone.
After a Treasure Vault win, the Treasure Gamble activates as an option. Each round pits Brilliant Staters against Broken Staters: more Brilliant lands doubles the current win, more Broken wipes it to zero. Up to four consecutive rounds are available; the maximum Gamble win is capped at 5,000x total bet. At 50/50 with a full-wipe downside, always collect. The math does not favor gambling a real Vault payout. The Gamble is only rational if the Vault payout is small enough that a loss wouldn't hurt.
Free Spins: Random Expansion Symbol
Three or more Tomb Scatters in any reel position triggers 10 Free Spins. Before the round starts, one non-Scatter symbol is randomly selected as the expansion symbol. In Free Spins, that symbol expands to cover the full reel height and pays across all board positions, gaps not a factor.
The top-payout scenario is Wilde as the expansion symbol. A clean run where Wilde fills multiple reels across all 10 spins is the primary route to the game's upper range. The symbol selected is random - there is no way to target it.
Re-triggers are possible: 3 or more Tomb Scatters during Free Spins adds 10 more spins. The same expansion symbol carries through the re-triggered rounds.
My 504-Spin Demo Session
I ran the demo at 1.50 per spin. The Play'n GO demo runs on a timer, and this one expired after roughly an hour - the session wrapped at 504 spins. Opening balance: 25,000.00. Ending balance: 24,783.25. Net: -216.75.
The session returned about 71% of what I wagered. That's well below the theoretical 96.2%, but expected for this kind of run. 504 spins on a high-volatility game with two stacked high-variance features is a short run. One session this length can go either way. This one went down.
The balance progression tells a specific story. Around spin 200 the balance had climbed to 25,014.25 - slightly above the starting point. At least one decent hit landed in the first 200 spins - could be a small Treasure Vault trigger, could be a decent payline run, possibly both. I can't confirm from the available screenshots. From spin 200 onward, the session went into a long grind. By spin 500 the balance had dropped to 24,789.25 - a fall of about 225 units while I wagered another 450. That's a dry stretch. Consistent with how this game plays between meaningful bonus events.
The jackpot meters were static throughout the session. Grand sat at 750.00 (500x at 1.50), Major at 150.00 (100x), Minor at 30.00 (20x), Mini at 15.00 (10x). None triggered. The GO Collect bowl filled to partial capacity around spin 200 - coins clearly visible in the checkpoint screenshot - then returned closer to empty by spin 500. The Treasure Vault was not triggered during the observed portion of the session.
No Free Spins or Treasure Vault rounds were captured in the session screenshots. I can't give a first-person account of the symbol-expansion selection or a Hold & Win re-spin sequence from this run. The session stayed in base game territory the whole time.

Test limitations: This session used demo mode with virtual credits, not real money. The Play'n GO demo session expired short of the target spin count - the demo runs on a time limit of approximately one hour. The session reached 504 spins; I had aimed for a longer run. No bonus rounds were confirmed in the captured screenshot set. A single session of 504 spins is too small to draw conclusions about long-term return rates or bonus trigger frequency.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Two independent bonus paths. Free Spins (symbol-expansion) and Treasure Vault (Hold & Win jackpot) run as separate features with separate triggers.
- Max win 10,000x is a genuine cap. For a 10-payline, 5x3 game at 96.2% RTP, that number is not inflated.
- The GO Collect mechanic kept the base game spins feeling active in a way the original doesn't - the bowl count gives each spin a second thing to track.
- Scatter pays stack on top of payline wins. Five Tomb Scatters return 200x total bet before Free Spins even starts.
- Symbol-expansion Free Spins are re-triggerable without a cap. Same expansion symbol carries through.
Cons
- No Buy Bonus. No shortcut to Free Spins - every trigger is earned through base game spins.
- Treasure Gamble is 50/50 with a wipe-to-zero outcome. Statistically, collect always beats the Gamble over repeated play.
- Two stacked high-variance features mean extended cold stretches between meaningful wins are routine, not edge cases.
- RTP not shown in the in-game rules. Checking the operator profile requires going outside the game.
How It Compares to Similar Slots
Book of Dead GO Collect vs. Original Book of Dead (Play'n GO, 2016)
The base frame is identical: 5x3 grid, 10 fixed paylines, Wilde as the top-payout symbol, Tomb Scatter as both Wild and Scatter, 10 symbol-expansion Free Spins with re-triggers. I'd recognize this grid in the dark. Same 5x3 structure as the original, same Wilde, same Tomb Scatter setup - the intro screen just has more to explain now.
The difference is the GO Collect layer. The Treasure Vault adds a second high-variance bonus path and pushes the max win cap higher. The original Book of Dead is a cleaner game in one sense - just the symbol-expansion Free Spins, nothing else in the mix. The GO Collect version adds complexity. That's a real split: focused symbol-expansion Free Spins, or the extra jackpot layer on top.
Book of Dead GO Collect vs. Gates of Olympus GO Collect (Play'n GO, 2024)
Both use Play'n GO's GO Collect system with the same Treasure Vault jackpot structure: Grand/Major/Minor/Mini at 500x/100x/20x/10x, Hold & Win re-spins, Stater collection bowl. The Treasure Vault mechanics are functionally identical across both games.
The base games are completely different. Gates of Olympus uses an all-position pay mechanic with tumble and symbol multipliers. Book of Dead GO Collect uses fixed paylines and expansion symbols. Gates of Olympus runs softer in practice. If the Treasure Vault is the draw, either game delivers it. If the symbol-expansion Free Spins are the draw, that's specific to Book of Dead.
Book of Dead GO Collect vs. Razor Shark (Push Gaming)
A different provider and a different mechanic, but a similar player profile: High volatility, jackpot tiers via a Hold & Win variant, a large max win cap, no Buy Bonus in the standard setup. Both are built for grinding sessions where the payoff comes in bursts, not steady returns. Neither is a casual machine.
Razor Shark has Push Gaming's own visual language and the push mechanic unique to that developer. Book of Dead GO Collect has the Egypt aesthetic and the symbol-expansion Free Spins, which Razor Shark doesn't replicate.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is the RTP of Book of Dead GO Collect?
The RTP widely reported for Book of Dead GO Collect is 96.2%. Play'n GO does not display this figure in the in-game rules - I verified this during testing; the help section does not list it. The 96.2% is the default operator setting. Lower configurations at 94.2%, 91.2%, 87.2%, and 84.2% are also available to casino operators. The RTP running in any specific casino depends on which profile that operator selected. Always check the game information section of the casino before a deposit. -
Does Book of Dead GO Collect have a Buy Bonus option?
No. There is no Buy Bonus or Free Spins purchase feature in Book of Dead GO Collect. I confirmed this during testing - no Buy Bonus button is present in the interface. Free Spins can only be triggered by three or more Tomb Scatter symbols naturally during base game play. -
How does the GO Collect mechanic work?
Gold Staters attach to regular symbols on the reels and collect automatically when they land. The GO Collect bowl on the left sidebar tracks accumulation. The more Staters collected in the base game, the higher the chance of a Treasure Vault trigger. The Treasure Vault is a Hold & Win re-spin bonus: it opens with 3 re-spins, and any new Stater hit resets the count to 3. When the counter reaches zero, the session ends and the Vault pays out the combined sum of all Stater values multiplied by total bet. -
How do Free Spins work in Book of Dead GO Collect?
Three or more Tomb Scatters in any reel position triggers 10 Free Spins. Before the round starts, one symbol (not the Tomb Scatter) is randomly selected to become the expansion symbol. In Free Spins, that symbol expands to fill the full reel height and pays across all positions, regardless of gaps. Re-triggers are possible: 3 or more Tomb Scatters during Free Spins adds 10 more; the same expansion symbol holds for those rounds. -
What is the Treasure Vault and how much can it pay?
The Treasure Vault is a Hold & Win bonus triggered by the GO Collect mechanic. It runs on 3 re-spins (reset on each new Stater). Regular Staters are worth 1x to 5x total bet. Bonus Staters are jackpot entries: Grand (500x), Major (100x), Minor (20x), Mini (10x). The Vault pays the sum of all landed values times total bet. The Grand at 5.00 per spin pays 2,500.00. The optional Treasure Gamble can multiply a Vault win up to 4 times (double or lose all), capped at a 5,000x maximum Gamble win. -
What is the maximum win in Book of Dead GO Collect?
The maximum win is 10,000x total bet, as stated in the in-game rules: "Win up to 10000x your bet!" At 5.00 per spin that is 50,000.00. The 10,000x upper limit requires stacking high-value outcomes across multiple features - typically an exceptional Free Spins run combined with back-to-back Treasure Gamble rounds. The maximum single Gamble win is 5,000x. -
Is this the same as the original Book of Dead?
No. Book of Dead GO Collect (February 2026) and the original Book of Dead (2016) share the same base structure: 5x3 grid, 10 paylines, Wilde, Tomb Scatter as Wild and Scatter, 10 symbol-expansion Free Spins with re-triggers, and RTP around 96.2%. The GO Collect version adds the Stater collection system, the Treasure Vault jackpot, and the Treasure Gamble. That raises the max win cap and adds a second bonus path. Both versions are classified as High volatility. -
What is the Treasure Gamble and should I use it?
After a Treasure Vault win, the game offers the Treasure Gamble as an optional extra. Each round needs more Brilliant Staters in the result than Broken to double the current win. A Broken-majority result wipes the win to zero. Up to 4 consecutive rounds are available; the maximum win through the Gamble is 5,000x total bet. At 50/50 odds with a full wipe on the downside, always collect - that's the higher expected-value strategy over repeated play. Using the Gamble makes sense only if the Vault win is small enough to risk and the session is at a point where a bigger result is the priority. -
What bet level should I use in the demo?
The demo interface at the Play'n GO provider URL shows bet options from 0.50 to 2.50, with a "+" button indicating further levels available in real-money mode. The real-money range is 0.10 to 50.00. All paytable values and jackpot multipliers scale with bet. The session on this page used 1.50 per spin.
